All county-sponsored group activities and events at Cape Fear Museum, our Public Libraries, Arboretum, Airlie Gardens and Parks and Gardens will be suspended through April. All facilities are still open to visitors, but no county-initiated group activities will take place at these attractions.

Child Passenger Safety Diversion Class
Apr 16 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

This is an educational program offered to drivers who have received a ticket for not having a child properly restrained in their motor vehicle.

Classes are held on the third Thursday of each month from 11am-1pm at Wilmington Fire Station 3 (114 Cinema Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403).

To be eligible for citation dismissal, the driver will need to attend this class where they will receive one-on-one hands on education from a nationally certified technician and will learn more about North Carolina child passenger safety law.

The driver that received the citation must be who schedules and attends the class prior to their court date.

One the day of class please bring:

  • The child and the appropriate car seat for the child
  • Citation
  • Drivers License

At the class, the technician issues a certificate for the driver to present to the District Attorney’s Office on the court date for dismissal of the citation and a waving of fines. This is a one-time opportunity for the driver.

What is this program about?

This educational program was created with the intent of reducing the number of infants born addicted to illicit substances, a condition called Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. During this course, participants will learn about this disorder, how to prevent it and leave with a better understanding of their family planning options.

Who can attend?

Any individuals interested in learning more about NAS and family planning.

Upcoming Courses:

  • Classes are at 10am and 2pm on the last Thursday of every month at the New Hanover County Department of Social Services.
