Health and Human Services hosting Pre-K Health Fair on August 17

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – To help families prepare for the start of the 2023-24 school year, New Hanover County Health and Human Services will host a Pre-K Health Fair from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 17 at the Health and Human Services building, located at 1650 Greenfield Street in Wilmington.

Pre-K Health Assessments can be scheduled during the health fair by calling 910-798-3500. All students enrolling in Pre-K will need a health assessment before taking part in a classroom setting.

“The health fair is a great opportunity for families and caregivers to get information and prepare for their student to begin their academic journey,” said Public Health Nurse Team Leader Colleen Applewhite. “We know getting ready for school can be overwhelming, especially for families who are doing the process for the first time. Our team at Health and Human Services wants to make that process as simple as possible.”

In addition to these required assessments, several community partners and county-organized initiatives will be on-site to provide guidance, including the mobile dental unit, NourishNC, Communities in Schools, Port City United, SafeKids Cape Fear and staff from the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. Children will be able to get their faces painted, play games, receive books and much more as part of the event.
