[ARCHIVED] New Hanover County offices, attractions & courts closed Friday, September 30

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County is currently under a Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning from Hurricane Ian. The storm has shifted slightly to the east and landfall is now predicted to occur around Georgetown, SC, bringing it closer to New Hanover County and increasing impacts from wind and rain in our area with the height of impacts occurring Friday afternoon. With this updated information, New Hanover County Government offices and services will be closed Friday, September 30, including New Hanover County Libraries, Senior Resource Center, Parks, Airlie Gardens, Arboretum, Cape Fear Museum, Pandemic Operations Center, and PCU Connect. The landfill will close Friday at noon and the HazWagon will not operate on Friday.

In addition, New Hanover and Pender County courts will be closed on Friday.

New Hanover County’s Emergency Management staff are activated, monitoring the storm, and working with state and local partners to ensure the needed resources are available for the community.

“Our area is expected to experience strong winds, with gusts up to 50 mph, heavy rains, and significant storm surge,” said Emergency Management Director Steven Still. “We strongly encourage residents and visitors to use caution if driving, and stay home if possible. We expect the greatest impacts for our area to come this afternoon.”
