Welcome to the New Hanover County Register of Deeds
The Register of Deeds serves as the custodian and manager for real estate-related documents as well as vital records and DD-214s of the county. The elected registrar strives to hold these duties to the utmost standards along with giving you the quality and professional public service in a friendly atmosphere. Regular Operations:
Elected New Hanover County Register of Deeds Tammy Piver has retired, effective December 31, 2022. Ms. Piver was elected as the nominee of the Republican Party, so that political party has been asked to make a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners for a replacement. An official appointment of a new Register of Deeds is expected by February 2023.
In the interim, the assistants and deputy register of deeds employees will continue to perform their regular duties with all the lawful power and authority of office and their acts remain official and valid. Katey-Ann Yonker, deputy register of deeds and administrative specialist was selected by Ms. Piver to fill her administrative duties required by a department head, therefore, being the primary point of contact in the interim, until a new Registrar is appointed by the Board of Commissioners.

- Can anyone obtain information on file at the Register of Deeds office?

Yes, all records filed in the Register of Deeds office are public records. Anyone can view and obtain a copy of a public document in the office.

In the event a document is recorded in your name, you will get an email with a copy of the document at no cost to you.
- Can I come in and fill out a form to register my business name?

Yes, as a courtesy to our customers, we have gone to the Secretary of States website and printed the form needed to register a business name.
- Can you tell me how much a piece of property sold for?

The Register of Deeds can only provide the amount of the excise tax stamp affixed to the deed at the time it was recorded.
