We strive to take a “value snapshot” of the County as of January 1, each year. In order to incorporate new construction, including remodeling we use the same appraisal manual and methods used to appraise properties that were in existence for the 2021 Revaluation.
Business Property & Listing Information
Business personal property includes machinery, computer/office equipment, airplanes, unlicensed vehicles, leasehold improvements, leased equipment, supplies, furniture, fixtures, farm equipment, etc. which are used for a business.
The Collections office is responsible for the collection of all property taxes levied by New Hanover County and the municipalities of Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.
The Land Records section of the Tax Department is responsible for maintaining the New Hanover County property base map and real property ownership data.
Motor Vehicles Information
North Carolina’s vehicle Tag and Tax Together program was designed to collect vehicle property taxes along with registration renewals and to conveniently pay them together.
Personal Property Information
Personal property includes motor vehicles, boats, campers, trailers, singlewide mobile homes with wheels and axle attached, doublewide trailers with wheels and axle attached, household furnishing or appliances for someone who rented or leased a residence or apartment from you, permanent tagged trailers, and airplanes.
Real Estate Information
Real property is defined as “land and everything attached to it, along with the rights of ownership”.
Short-term rental taxes are processed by the NHC Finance Department.
Tax Relief & Deferment
A person is totally and permanently disabled if the person has a physical or mental impairment that substantially precludes them from obtaining gainful employment and the permanent disability is reasonably certain to continue without improvement through out their life.
