Local Emergency Planning Committee

The New Hanover County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)  brings together private sector and industry partners to support the development and review of emergency action plans and provide information about chemicals in the community to citizens.  Our LEPC is a part of the commitment to the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) effort to support planning for chemical emergencies and ensuring the public is aware of the storage and use of chemicals in our community. The mission of the New Hanover County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to plan for emergencies involving hazardous materials effectively. The LEPC is responsible for:

  • SARA Title III environmental compliance
  • HAZMAT training and exercises
  • Site-specific chemical planning programs
  • Coordination of chemical information to emergency responders
  • Maintenance of the county-wide HAZMAT Incident Management Plan
