Wells Fargo Championship Golf Tournament in New Hanover County

Public Safety Information

After nearly two years of planning, the Wells Fargo Championship, in conjunction with federal, state, county and city officials, have unveiled their Traffic and Parking Plan for the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship at Eagle Point Golf Club.  The main goal of these planning efforts is to ensure all spectators travel safely to and from the Championship throughout the seven-day period beginning Monday, May 1.

Special Event Travel Advisory: Eagle Point Golf Club will host the Wells Fargo Championship May 1-7, 2017. Motorists are asked to be flexible, allow for extra travel time, and travel through the area with caution.

  • Lane restrictions will be in place on Porter’s Neck Road from Champ Davis Road to Bald Eagle Lane during tournament play.
  • There will be no parking permitted along state-maintained roads.  For safety reason, towing will be enforced.
  •  If your vehicle is towed from these areas, contact the State Highway Patrol at (919) 733-3861.

**THERE WILL BE NO ON-SITE PARKING AT EAGLE POINT GOLF CLUB**

General Spectator Parking
The tournament’s main parking for general spectators will be located at the Hampstead, NC “Spot Festival” property located at 14121 US-17, Hampstead, NC 28441.  Designated shuttle will be provided from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday, of tournament week.

City of Wilmington Transportation Hub
Parking and shuttle services will also be provided at the transportation hub located in downtown Wilmington, on the south side of Harnett Street between North 3rd and North Front Streets.  Shuttles will run from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday, of tournament week.

Handicapped Parking
Free parking and shuttle services for those with special needs will be in a “reserved” area of Lowe’s Home Improvement at 191 Porters Neck Road.  Persons must apply for access to the Handicapped Parking Lot.  To complete an application, visit wellsfargochampionship.com/handicappedparking.

Rideshare Options
Those using Uber, Lyft or other rideshare companies, including taxi and limo services, should proceed to the general spectator parking lot in Hampstead or the transportation hub located in downtown Wilmington for drop-off and pick-up.  There is NO drop-off location for rideshare users in the Market Street/Porters Neck Road area or at Eagle Point.

Boating & Waterway Access
There are no public boat ramps or docks along the Intracoastal Waterway in the adjacent area; therefore, there are no designated pick-up or drop-off locations for spectators wishing to arrive by water.  Spectators wishing to arrive by boat must have permission of the destination dock owner.

Public safety officials encourage everyone to utilize the provided shuttles to help alleviate traffic congestion and potential safety issues associated with walking or riding a bicycle.

THERE IS NO DESIGNATED AREA FOR GOLF CARTS & BICYCLES AT EAGLE POINT.

Operation of Golf Carts in New Hanover County
North Carolina does allow cities and counties to adopt their own provisions regulating the use of golf carts on any public street, road or highway where the speed limit is 35 mph or less; however, there is no such ordinance in the unincorporated areas of New Hanover County, therefore the operation of golf carts along public streets is prohibited.

In order to accommodate the flow of traffic to the Wells Fargo Championship and, more particularly, ensure the safety of residents and visiting spectators, there will be lane restrictions on Porters Neck Road and parking restrictions along all adjacent state-maintained roads.

Getting to my home . . .
All residents will be able to get to and from their homes by motor vehicle at all times during the event.  Some brief delays in doing so, and parking restrictions on local streets, should be anticipated.

Parking restrictions
There will be temporary “no parking” restrictions along state-maintained routes.  These restrictions are necessary due to the event-related traffic patterns and are intended to discourage event parking that could cause problems for emergency vehicles, add unsafe pedestrian trips to the event, and be inconvenient for residents.

Community Shuttle Services
New Hanover County and the Wells Fargo Championship have partnered to provide residents of the Porters Neck area a safer alternative to walking or riding a bicycle to the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship at Eagle Point.  This shuttle is available to the residents of the Porters Neck area on a first come first serve basis.

To expedite entrance to the golf tournament, passengers may be searched for prohibited items prior to boarding the shuttles.  A list of prohibited items can be found here.

The community shuttle is not handicapped accessible (patrons with special needs can park in the reserved handicapped lot – see above in “Parking & Shuttle Services” for more information). The community shuttle will operate Monday through Sunday during the tournament week, according to the stops below.

Northern Route (RED)
Futch Creek Road at Bald Eagle Lane
Futch Creek Road at Olympic Lane

Southern Route (Yellow)

Access to Fire, Emergency Medical Services & Law Enforcement Protection
New Hanover County Emergency Management, working with other key public safety officials, has created an Incident Action Plan to circumvent any unplanned issues away from the golf course during the Wells Fargo Championship.  Additional emergency response personnel will be in place to ensure there are no gaps in services provided to the citizens of New Hanover County.

New Hanover County, in partnership with Wells Fargo Championship Golf Tournament organizers, would like to thank you for being a part of the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship!  We hope the information provided will help to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
