Accommodations for Disabilities and Language Needs
Effective Communication: The County will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities or persons needing translators and interpreters so they can participate equally in the County’s programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, vision disabilities, or language needs.
Modifications to Policies and Procedures: The County will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities and have an equal opportunity to enjoy all County programs, services, and activities.
For building access and seating/other room configuration, the requesting party should contact Jim Haley, County Property Management, at 910-620-3301 (cell) or 910-798-4333. For signage, interpretation or translation services, the requesting party should contact the specific Department head sponsoring/hosting the event, as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event.
The County will not place a cost or surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or language needs or any group of individuals with disabilities or language needs to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.
