General Communicable Disease
The New Hanover County Health Department is responsible for the investigation of reportable communication diseases in accordance with NC General Statutes 130A-144.
The purpose of a communicable disease investigation is to protect public health. For instance, the department researches the source of an outbreak and prevents the illness from being spread.

Tuberculosis (TB)
The health department has the responsibility and legal authority to coordinate all TB efforts in New Hanover County.
