Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Is there any cost to our department for work we have requested to be done?
A.  In general there will be no cost to your department for routine or preventive maintenance. If the work being requested is not routine or preventive, a cost could be incurred by your department; however, this will be determined by Property Management Director and Department Head requesting the work.
Q.  How do I submit a work order request?
A. All work request should be submitted to your department's contact person. That person reviews the request and if he/she deem it valid, they will forward it through the computerized work request system (MicroMain) to our department.
Q.

How long will it take to complete my work request?

A.

Emergency request; i.e., electrial problems, water leaks, gas or unusual odors, broken glass, security issues, etc., will be handled ASAP.

Routine request will be reviewed, prioritized, scheduled and assigned. Once the request is assigned, the work should be completed within 3-5 days.

Special projects will be scheduled by the Property Management Director and Department Head requesting the project.

Q. Can a specific technician be requested to perform work?
A.  No. Requests are assigned by priority and the availability of the technicians.
Q.  Do customers have a choice in paint colors?
A.  Yes, but their choices are limited to a list of colors used in county buildings. All colors are approved by Property Management Director and Department Head requesting work.
Q. What do I do when I see a missing street sign?
A. You should contact Property Management at 798-4330. Property Management is responsible for replacing missing or damaged green street signs within New Hanover County.
Q. How do I request floor cleaning?
A. You should contact Property Management at 798-4330 and ask for Carolyn Batts (Custodial Superintendent). Floor cleaning is usually scheduled when the building is close so time of completion varies.
Q. How often are auctions held?
A. Auctions are held at least once a year; they are now being held online at GovDeals.com.
