Castle Hayne Community Plan
The County Planning Staff recently completed a process to create a plan for the future growth of the Castle Hayne area.
The process began in July 2007 when the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners signed a resolution of support for County Planning Staff to embark on a planning initiative for the Castle Hayne Community. On Thursday, September 13, 2007, County Staff held a Castle Hayne Community Planning Meeting. At that meeting, issues were discussed and interested participants volunteered to be part of a Castle Hayne Task Force to help guide the Planning Staff through the creation of a Castle Hayne Community Plan. The Castle Hayne Task Force met over the course of six months and subcommittees were formed to discuss specific issues. Click here to view the presentation from the final Castle Hayne Task Force meeting on February 21, 2008.
On June 12, 2008, New Hanover County Planning Staff held a second community meeting to present a draft list of issues and recommendations to the community at large. Representatives from other County departments and area agencies including New Hanover County Engineering, New Hanover County Environmental Health, New Hanover County Parks, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority and the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization were all present to answer questions and talk with residents.
Through numerous meetings and lengthy discussions with the residents, a plan took shape. The final result of this process is a Castle Hayne Community Plan that encompasses the issues that were brought forward by the community and recommendations to address these issues as the community continues to grow. Please click on the link posted at the top of the page to read a draft of the Castle Hayne Community Plan. The Plan was presented to the New Hanover County Planning Board on Thursday, November 6 and the New Hanover County Board of County Commissioners on Monday, December 1 and unanimously supported by both Boards. Limited copies of the Plan are available at the New Hanover County Planning office, or a plan may be downloaded from the link at the top of the page.
