INTERLIBRARY LOAN PROCEDURE
Interlibrary Loan is a process where a library borrows items from another library system totally separate from its own system. When neither the Main library nor the branches own a particular item, it can be requested through the interlibrary loan service. Books, periodical articles, microfilm, and audiovisual items can be requested. The majority of libraries do not lend audiovisual items through interlibrary loan.
To request an item through interlibrary loan:
- a current library card is required. The patron’s card should be in good standing (no fees over $4.00).
- There is a $2.00 non-refundable fee for each interlibrary loan request and there is not a guarantee that an item will be retrieved. Occasionally, an additional fee is charged by the lending library for photocopying, insurance, etc. The patron will be notified prior to the item being shipped if they owe an additional amount.
- author and title for each item is required
- Subject searches cannot be done.
- An item must be at least 6 months old.
- Make certain to enter all starred information correctly: full name, library card number, and phone number. Please choose which library you prefer to pick up the item.
- Renewals must be requested through the interlibrary loan desk, 798-6359, five days prior to the due date of the item.
If more than one item is requested at a time, more than likely the items will arrive at different times. The lending libraries determine the due date and they may allow one renewal. The fee for overdue ILL books is 20 cents per day. Renewals must be requested through the interlibrary loan desk, 798-6359, five days prior to the due date of the item. Some restrictions may apply such as no renewal or in-library use.
