Plumbing Division
The history of plumbing systems is long and varied. Early water management systems can be traced to the ancient city of Babylon established in 2900 B.C. As the city expanded to both sides of the Euphrates River during the reign of King Nebuchandnezzar from 605 –562 B.C., plumbing shill that provided irrigation dams, drains and basins evolved into the provision of personal bathrooms for the rich and famous. The earliest known plumbing standard is believed to be Hammurabi’s Code of Laws. Specifically Laws 53-56 outline the expectations for irrigation systems and the penalties for non-compliance. The New Hanover County Plumbing Division enforces Volume II of the NC State Uniform Building Code as well as applicable requirements from NHC’s local Code of Ordinances. |
