Most people who are unfamiliar with the Mechanical Code assume that it is a code that regulates aspects of our forced-air heating and air conditioning systems at home and work. This assumption is partly correct but leaves out much of what the Mechanical Code actually regulates.
The forced-air heating and air systems that we know today were just emerging as new technologies about fifty years ago. Yet some of the earliest Mechanical Code Standards were developed in the 1880’s. That is because Mechanical Codes cover a broad range of technologies including steam boilers, gas boilers, oil and gas-fired equipment, fans and venting systems. The New Hanover County Mechanical Division enforces the 2006 North Carolina Mechanical Code and the 2006 North Carolina Fuel Gas Code as well as applicable requirements from NHC’s local Code of Ordinances. | |
