Electrical Division
Two hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) proved with his kite that lightning is electricity. Over 100 years ago, the first National Electrical Code was developed to address the hazards associated with the use of electricity. The National Fire Protection Association began sponsoring the National Electrical Code in 1911. The purpose of the National Electrical Code is “the practical safeguarding of persons and property from the hazards associated with the use of electricity”. Today, the Code is revised every three years to stay abreast of the fast development of new technologies and methodologies that characterize our times. The New Hanover County Electrical Division enforces the NC State Uniform Electrical Code as well as applicable requirements from NHC’s local Code of Ordinances. |
