Networks & Operations Division

The Networks and Operations staff of the IT department provides the network infrastructure utilized by the 30 departments and 1500 employees in New Hanover County government.  The infrastructure consists of servers, mid-range systems, routers, switches and hubs serving approximately 29 remote circuit sites, 17 fiber connected sites and the main administration building.  In addition, network connections are maintained with Internet, City of Wilmington, New Hanover Health Network, NC Board of Elections, NC Administrative Clerk of Courts and the NC Information Technology Services.  With these network connections, County employees can electronically share information with State and City agencies. 

The Information Systems Technicians and the Computer Operations Coordinator provide support for hardware platforms such as IBM Netfinity servers and the AS400 approximately 16 hours a day.  Network engineers are responsible for the design and installation of WANs, LANs, servers, routers, hubs, switches, and network software, including countywide email.  Network security is also provided by the Network Engineers.
