Responsibilities:
As Commission Director, Mr. Byrd works with a citizen Board appointed by the county commissioners, municipal elected officials, and community organizations to address human relations' issues. As Human Relations Department Director, he directs the activities of the Commission's staff responsible for the administration of county ordinances against discrimination. This includes investigation and enforcement authority regarding employment and housing discrimination complaints. The Department also provides advisory/training services to businesses and organizations.
Career Focus:
Mr. Byrd is committed to being proactive rather than reactive in the community. His focus is to encourage constructive dialogue and positive relationships among citizens. He strives to educate the local business community through outreach efforts such as public forums, symposiums, workshops, and dialogue groups within the jurisdiction of the Commission which includes the municipalities of New Hanover County, Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach, and Kure Beach.
Education:
Graduate of North Carolina A&T State University

Served in the Office of Minority Affairs during Governor Jim Martin’s administration
Former Industrial Recruiter with the NC Department of Commerce
