BILLING

How much will my visit cost?
Family Planning, Child Health Physicals, Neurology Clinic, Nutrition Counseling (non-WIC, non-Maternal Health), and Psycho-social Counseling fees are assessed on a sliding fee scale based on the number living in the household and household income.  Testing for sexually transmitted diseases is provided free of charge.  Please go to Fees_for_PatientServices
and/or the New Hanover County Fee Policy links for fee information.

Will you bill my insurance?
New Hanover County Health Department will file your private insurance; however, we are not an in-network provider for any insurance company at this time.  If your insurance requires you to go to an in-network provider, your insurance will deny the claim.  If the claim is denied, you will be responsible for any patient fees assessed according to the New Hanover County Fee Policy.  Flat fee services will not be billed to insurance with the exception of Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.

How much do you charge for vaccines?
Vaccines provided for children (normal childhood immunizations) and adults (Td boosters and others if criteria is met) by the State Immunization program are free of charge.  Patients receiving private stock vaccines, those not provided by the State, are charged a flat rate for the vaccines.  Please go to Fees_for_PatientServices or the New Hanover County Fee Policy links for fee information.

What services cannot be billed to Medicaid?
Medicaid will not cover our flat fee services.  Flat fee services are private stock vaccines (with the exception of Menactra), completion of the Tuberculosis Screening Form, non-immunization injections (allergy, B12, etc.) and tuberculin skin testing (for documentation purposes – work, school, etc.).

Do you have any free services?
Vaccines provided for children (normal childhood immunizations) and adults (Td boosters and others if criteria is met) provided by the State Immunization Program are free of charge.  Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis (if contact/suspect/case) are also provided free of charge.  Patients may also have their blood pressure checked by our nurses at no charge.

Does my income matter?
Fees for Family Planning, Child Health Physicals, Neurology Clinic, Nutrition Counseling (non-WIC, non-Maternal Health), and Psycho-social Counseling are assessed on a sliding fee scale based on the number living in the household and household income (the total income of every individual living in the household regardless of relationship).   Proof of income is required at time of registration.  Fees may be assessed at 0% to 100% based on the income information provided.
