  INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL VACCINES/MEDICATIONS

Our travel services provide protections for the following vaccine-preventable diseases and illness:

Hepatitis

Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver caused by hepatitis A virus or HAV.  Hepatitis A vaccinations consist of two Hepatitis A injections 6 months apart.  There is a very high rate of protection after receiving the first vaccine and this vaccine is always recommended for travel.  HAV can be transmitted through a variety of ways:

·         Person-to-person contact

·         Consuming contaminated water, ice, or shellfish from sewage-contaminated water

·         Vegetables, fruits, or other foods that are eaten undercooked

Hepatitis B is a viral infection of the liver caused by hepatitis B virus or HBV.  Hepatitis B vaccinations consist of a series of three doses within a 4 to 6 month period.  With each injection, you receive about a third of the total protection when completing the series.  HBV is transmitted by contact with blood, such as:

·         Receiving a blood transfusion

·         Working in health-care environments, such as medical or dental

·         Tattooing or body piercing

·         Entering a country with an increased rate of infection

Twinrix is a combination vaccine which protects against hepatitis A and B.  This is also a series of three vaccinations over a 6 month period.  You should receive at least two of the vaccines separated by 28 days before entering the country you are visiting.
