Goal: To decrease the spread of HIV in our community.

The Health Department offers education to reduce the risk of getting HIV by assesing risk for HIV, and making changes to decrease exposure to the HIV virus.  The Health Department also offers free confidential testing for HIV.

North Carolina has laws in place to protect persons who are not infected with HIV from those who are infected.  General States .0202 HIV Control Measures:

  • Refrain from sexual intercourse unless condoms are used.

  • Do not share needles or syringes, or any other drug-related equipment.

  • Do not donate or sell blood, or other blood products, semen, tissues, organs, or breast milk.

  • Have a tuberculin skin test.

  • Notify future sexual intercourse partners of the infection and any previous sexual intercourse and needle partners since the date of infection (if known) and for the previous year.
