Items Banned from Disposal NHC Landfill and WASTEC
New Hanover County owns and operates two solid waste disposal facilities; a secure Landfill facility and a Waste to Energy (Wastec) facility. Items disposed of in your trash can or a dumpster may ultimately end up at either facility. Therefore, if this website says that the proper disposal of an item is at the NHC Landfill it means that you need to transport the item to the Landfill. There are containers provided to collect items that are banned from the Landfill, so we can dispose of them properly.
The table below is a list of items that are banned from the Landfill and Wastec; some are banned by the State and some by internal policies.
