The new Hanover County Engineering Department is
responsible for, but not limited to the following services

1) Review Plans and Specifications for subdivisions and utility improvements for conformance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.  Makes recommendations to staff, developers and designers regarding modification or approval of plans.  For Questions related to these reviews or water and sewer availability for developmental purposes, contact Gary McSmith.

2) Directs, Monitors and Inspects the work of private architectural/engineering firms, construction firms and other vendors impacting existing county facilities and/or utility systems owned and operated by the county, to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.

3) Manages the County's Sedimentation and Erosion Control Program along with the enforcement of Federal, State and Local regulations for storm water management, and new subdivision development.

4) Provides Regulatory oversight for the County's Storm Water ordinance.  For questions related to the Storm Water Ordinance, contact Jim Iannucci.

5) Supervises all Capital Projects with regard to negotiations, plan reviews, schedules, inspections and contractual requirements as they pertain to the direct project, along with all Federal, State, and Local requirements and laws.

6) Directs the operations and maintenance of the County's existing Water and Sewer systems and provides service to approximately 32,000 customers.
