2008 SECOND PRIMARY
Pursuant to NCGS 163-33(8), New Hanover County will conduct a Second Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. The following office will be submitted to the voters: Commissioner of Labor (Democrat). The polls will be open for voting on Election Day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The One-Stop Absentee voting period will begin no earlier than June 5, 2008, or as soon as ballots are delivered. One-Stop voting will be held at 230 Government Center Drive.
All residents of New Hanover County who are registered with the New Hanover County Board of Elections are eligible to vote in the primary election. Voters who are already registered to vote need not re-register to vote in this election. Pursuant to NCGS 163-111(e) There shall be no registration of voters between the dates of the first and second primaries.
Absentee voting, including One Stop voting, will begin as soon as ballots are made available to the county board of elections office. Please check the New Hanover County Board of Elections website often to find out when ballots for absentee voting will be available. A person may register to vote at the Board of Elections office at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 180, Wilmington between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays. Persons wishing to register and vote after the registration deadline may appear in person at a One Stop voting site, complete the voter registration form and provide proof of residence by presenting valid documents showing current name and address.
New Hanover County will have one One Stop Voting sites open for the 2008 Second Primary. The site and hours are:
New Hanover County Government Center – 230 Government Center Drive, Ste 39
Monday through Friday, 8am to 5 pm
Saturday (June 21st) 9am to 1pm
Any voter who, for any reason, would prefer to vote early may vote an absentee ballot. A voter may request an application either by mail or cause such request to be made through a near relative or verifiable legal guardian. For this purpose "near relative" means spouse, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, stepparent or stepchild. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot to be mailed is 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008.
The Board will meet on June 3, 10, 17, and 23, 2008 at 5 p.m. for the purpose of action on applications for absentee ballots. By resolution, the Board will begin counting absentee ballots at 2 p.m. on June 24, 2008.
