What is Work First?

Work First is a temporary assistance for needy families.   Recipients of Work First Financial Assistance are required to get a job, paid or unpaid, or be in short term training within 12 weeks.  The goal of Work First is to help parents support their children through work.

How do I apply for Work First?

To make an application, come into the New Hanover County Department of Social Services during regular business hours.  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
