Personal Data
Bill Kopp was born in Southport, North Carolina on November 23, 1937. He graduated from New Hanover High School, attended Wilmington College, and graduated from East Carolina University with a BS degree in History and Government. After college he was a teacher in the New Hanover County School System. Mr. Kopp was appointed Chief Deputy Clerk for the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. In 1970, he was elected to the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners and served two terms, both terms as Chairman of the Board. During the Martin Administration, he was appointed Controller of the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. During this time, Mr. Kopp successfully completed the Governor's Executive Management Program.

He has served as a member of the Coastal Resources Commission, the Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority, and the Cape Fear Council of Governments. Currently, he serves as 1st Vice President of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.

Mr. Kopp is married to Barbara Wescott Kopp, has two children, two step-children, one granddaughter, two grandsons, and four step-grandsons. His favorite pastimes are gardening, cooking, and golf.
