Robert G. "Bobby" Greer was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management from Wilmington College, now the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Following graduation from college in 1966, he entered the United States Coast Guard and served on active duty and reserve assignments in New Jersey and North Carolina until 1972.

Mr. Greer joined Sellers and Greer, Inc. in 1966 and worked with his father, the late Gardner D. Greer, who was the founder of the business. In 1973, he became President of the company and operated the business until it was sold in April 1997.
