County Attorney's Office Responsibilities

COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
To represent New Hanover County in all civil litigation.
To provide legal guidance and support to all County departments, Boards and Commissions.
To draft contracts and County documents.
To study, draft, or amend ordinances, resolutions, procedures, and regulations addressing new or ongoing issues affecting New Hanover County.
To study, draft, and track necessary legislation proposed by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners for enactment by the North Carolina General Assembly.
To revise and update the New Hanover County Code to give County departments and citizens the most current information.
To initiate lawsuits to insure compliance with all County ordinances and regulations.
To assist New Hanover County citizens with complaints concerning local cable companies.
To assist contractors with pre-qualification and re-qualification in order to become eligible to bid on New Hanover County projects.
To provide New Hanover County citizens with knowledge regarding County departments and procedures.
Research, file and defend bankruptcy claims on behalf of county departments
