                                 Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program (FGP)

                                    Share Today. Shape Tomorrow

Foster Grandparents devote 20-40 hours per week of volunteer service to disadvantaged babies, children, or youth in New Hanover County by:

  • tutoring children one-on-one
  • caring for infants & children with physical or mental disabilities
  • offering emotional support to child victims of abuse or neglect

Who can be a Foster Grandparent Volunteer?

  • You must be 55+ years of age
  • You must love children
  • Your income must be within a certain limit to qualify
  • Must attend Pre-service and monthly training sessions

What Benefits do Foster Grandparents receive?

  • A modest tax-free stipend
  • Assistance with transportation costs
  • Accident & liability insurance while on duty
  • Volunteer recognition
