Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program (FGP)

Foster Grandparents devote 20-40 hours per week of volunteer service to disadvantaged babies, children, or youth in New Hanover County by:
- tutoring children one-on-one
- caring for infants & children with physical or mental disabilities
- offering emotional support to child victims of abuse or neglect
Who can be a Foster Grandparent Volunteer?
- You must be 55+ years of age
- You must love children
- Your income must be within a certain limit to qualify
- Must attend Pre-service and monthly training sessions
What Benefits do Foster Grandparents receive?
- A modest tax-free stipend
- Assistance with transportation costs
- Accident & liability insurance while on duty
- Volunteer recognition
